Clean sweep for Demon TV as student station wins four national awards


Student broadcasters at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv Leicester (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv) are celebrating after sweeping the board at this year’s awards.

, De Montfort Students' Union (DSU)’s student TV station won four awards and was highly commended for best broadcaster.

Win: Fiona Bruce with Lydia George, named Best On-Screen Female

Station manager Jonny Norton won best title sequence for his short film Redwood; editing supervisor Charlie Burt won the animation award for his Yonder World title sequence and best post-production for his work on a music video called Learning Curve.

Lydia George, Demon Media’s head of social media, won best on-screen female - with awards presenter Fiona Bruce saying she looked forward to watching her on TV one day.

Station Manager Jonny Norton, whose work was described as “stunning” by judges, said: “I'm absolutely ecstatic with the results, it feels incredible that we've been named the best student television station in the whole of the UK for four categories! These awards are hugely prestigious in the world of student media and it's very rare for a station to get more than one or two, let alone four!

“Our Best Broadcaster commendation really goes out to all of our members and anyone who has supported Demon TV over the past year, it's you that makes the station what it is! It's been incredible year and I don't want to leave!”

Double award-winner Charlie, who is studying , added: “It was a fantastic night and I did not expect to walk away with an award at all, let alone two! Demon TV had a great night and we are all very proud to be members of Demon Media, I cannot wait to start working on more projects with my brilliant friends at Demon!”

Fellow student Lydia George was overwhelmed with the praise from Fiona Bruce who presented Best On-Screen Female and described Lydia as “funny and genuine [with] a unique voice”.

Lydia said “I'm completely overwhelmed and still so shocked. I was not expecting to be shortlisted, let alone win! It's a pretty crazy moment when Fiona Bruce announces that you're apparently the best female presenter in student television.

“Nasta were lovely, so many of the crew were congratulating me all night and it was all round a really professional and well produced event! Very proud to be part of Demon right now!”
