From Berlin to Beijing, #ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmvglobal launches latest overseas trips for students


ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv Leicester’s (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv) pioneering #ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmvglobal scheme has launched the latest opportunities for students to study and volunteer overseas with trips designed to expand their cultural horizons and boost employability.

The diverse mix of academic-led trips, summer schools and volunteering projects means there are almost 50 different experiences students can take part in between April and August 2019.

Academic-led trips will be heading to destinations such as Canada, France, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya and Trinidad.

While volunteering opportunities will see students spend a summer helping transform the lives of others, working with projects in Berlin, Cambodia and Mexico.

The award-winning #ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmvglobal scheme is part of the university's dedication to providing an unrivalled student experience and excellent employment opportunities. More than 10,000 students have taken part in a #ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmvglobal experience since the scheme was launched just over three years ago.

The latest trips are announced as #ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmvglobal received an honourable mention in the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education. This was received in the field of Student Mobility and ‘given in recognition of innovative programs and services that strengthen student mobility in both directions and strategically increase participation while preparing students to enter the global workforce’.

Students from the Leicester Media School have the chance to take part in Documentary Film Production in Bali, where they will investigate and what these mean to the islanders and the tourist trade.

Fashion Buying students have the opportunity to hear first-hand how prestigious brands operate in Hong Kong.

They will visit fashion giants Clover International - where ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv graduates and placement students are currently employed - Royal Spirit and Ralph Lauren.

Postgraduate Accounting and Finance students will explore the financial district of New York, learning about the institutions based there while gaining an understanding of how the most recent financial crisis unfolded.

Through engaging with Malaysian universities, second year Psychology students have the opportunity to explore the influence of culture on personality in Malaysia.

First year students will be able to take part in faculty-wide trips including Arts, Design and Humanities in Copenhagen, Business and Law in Paris, and Health and Life Sciences in Amsterdam.

Fine Art student Amber Jesson took part in a #ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmvglobal volunteering opportunity last summer.

She said: “Applying for this experience was probably the best decision I've ever made. My experience was truly amazing. Not only have I met the loveliest people and made friends all over the world, I have been able to help change lives, even if it’s in the smallest way possible. That's something that I'll forever be proud of.”

Students can also spend their summer abroad by participating in summer schools at one of ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv’s partner universities in Seoul, Istanbul and Beijing.

They can choose from a range of subjects to learn while also experiencing a new culture. This year’s summer schools include Delightful Istanbul Summer School, Korea University International Summer Campus and University of Science and Technology Beijing Summer School.

All who are accepted onto an overseas #ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmvglobal experience will qualify for a bursary, and should check the website for full details of the application process, as well as tips for writing a strong submission.
