The story of ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv comes from humble beginnings. In March 1870 ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv was created “to afford authoritative instruction in art to the people of Leicester”. The first classes were held in a former warehouse where men and women from the gentry were taught during the day, while workers came to evening classes.

From those small beginnings, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv is now home to 27,000 students, 3,200 staff, and over 200,000 alumni. Throughout ÃÛÌÒ´«Ãºmv’s many incarnations – as the Leicester School of Art, Leicester Polytechnic, Leicester College of Art and Leicester College of Technology – we have never lost pride in being part of the vibrant city of Leicester. Whether you have been a student, a lecturer, worked in the factories which used to be on campus, or were even one of the untold number of music fans who saw gigs here down the decades, you are a part of our history.

We want to hear your stories.
